Weight vs. speed

How this works

Trend

An exponential moving average (α = 0.1), seeded with the first three readings. Missing days are filled with straight lines between real readings so the trend can step daily; it never extends past your last reading. Gaps longer than 14 days are left blank on the chart.

Usual range

The shaded band spans the 10th–90th percentile of how far readings sat from the trend over the previous 60 days. Readings outside it are drawn slightly larger. It is a description of normal day-to-day variation, not a target.

Pace and what's expected today

Behind the scenes a Kalman filter tracks two things at once: your weight and how fast it is changing. It sets the trend line's colours, the words after the trend number, the pace sentences, the range expected for today's reading and the Explore charts. A pace counts as rising or falling once its 95% range excludes zero; before that, 0.1 kg a week or more reads as edging up or down. The trend number itself is the classic moving average, which is steadier when your weight is flat.

Sources and corrections

Apple Health readings sync from an iPhone Shortcut; the earliest reading each Shanghai day is used. Older readings were transcribed from a handwritten journal. To correct, exclude or annotate a day, edit data/reviews.json; the original value is kept.
